‘The Gathering’ was commissioned by a client looking for a substantial table and seating for a kitchen/dining room. The brief was broad: it needed to be an everyday piece for having breakfast and reading papers as well as being smart enough for occasional dinner parties.
Also part of the challenge was that the table needed to provide ample surface area without ‘swamping’ the room. The result is ‘The Gathering’ which, as the name suggests, provides a central focus for relaxation, meals and fun!
The table and accompanying benches are made from solid elm which creates some wonderful grain and colour patterns. A slightly darker elm forms the curved legs which are laminated for strength and so that the line of the grain emphasises their shape. The whole leg design interlocks structurally and has a destinctly celtic appearance.
A matt finish hard wax oil containing some liming pigments gives the table a highly durable and smart yet slightly ‘lived-in’ appearance which, again, was part of the client brief.
All together a set of solid, smart pieces which will be used and appreciated for years to come!
