Arwen bench

The Arwen bench was once of a number of commissions made using wood from the client’s own tree. The large Scottish cherry had been part of the property for decades before succumbing to the forces of Storm Arwen in 2021. The trunk was removed, milled into boards and then left to season before a final stint in a kiln. This last stage was important as the house where it was to be used is modern spec with underfloor heating so any excess moisture in the wood would likely have resulted in warping, cracking and shrinkage of the joints.

The client specified some pieces, one of which was this bench which would sit in the client’s hallway as a decorative but very much functional piece.

The colourway of the wood is exceptional and the grain patterns produced a dramatic effect on the bench top.
