Mike is a patient and inspiring teacher and enjoys passing on his knowledge and skills to others. We are located about an hour north of Aberdeen where we offer a series of three weekend courses in our beautiful rural surroundings for either individuals or small groups. These are very practical and are all based on a project which teaches a range of skills and at the end of the course you will have a completed piece to take away with you.
Students get their own bench, tools and materials for the course project are there is a maximum of 3 people on each course which means you will get plenty of individual attention. We also provide you with a light lunch on both days along with tea, coffee and Jane’s superb home made cake!
The beginners course will introduce basic joints and use of the tools by working through a project to build a child’s stool. We’ll also talk about characteristics of wood and give advice on which tools to get you started in setting up your own workshop at home. Cost: £295
The intermediate course will cover carcass-building techniques and some basic cabinetry work needed to make a small spice rack. We’ll also take a closer look at some of the workshop equipment including how to operate it safely. Cost: £295
The progressive course introduces more advanced skills through our project-based teaching technique. On this course students will make a tea tray featuring dovetailed corners. Cost: £295
